The Island named after the Prison ruin. The island is around 800m long and 230m wide at its broadest point. The British First Minister of Zanzibar, Lloyd Mathews, purchased the island in 1893 and constructed a prison complex there. No prisoners were ever housed on the island and instead, it became a quarantine station for yellow fever cases.

The journey starts with a local private boat trip to the island. After arrival at a small island, you will feel like an explorer. Even the island is small, but there are more than 50 tortoises in it which some of them are more than 100 years old. It is possible to feed, take many close up pictures with them and have a great time. The Island is also home for Peacock and tiny antelopes. You will learn more about the history and of course why there are so many turtles on the island. After that possible snorkel in the water near the island and search for colorful tropical fishes and attractive corals.
